The City of Joondalup has expanded the activities permitted for mobile trader’s permits at selected coastal locations to allow businesses to offer beach equipment hire services, providing greater convenience for beachgoers and boosting local tourism.

This initiative enables businesses to apply for permits to provide beach hire equipment such as umbrellas, seating, and other leisure gear, enhancing visitor experiences. This decision follows an extensive review of existing options for activating Joondalup’s 17km of stunning coastline and supporting local economic activity.

Joondalup Mayor Albert Jacob said the expansion aligns with the City’s ongoing commitment to enhancing public spaces and creating new opportunities for local businesses.

“Our coastline is one of our greatest assets, and this initiative will provide a new way for residents and visitors to enjoy our beaches while also supporting local businesses,” Mayor Jacob said. “By allowing equipment hire services, we are making it easier for people, particularly tourists, to stay at the beach longer and fully experience all that our coastal areas have to offer.”

The City allows trading to occur at pre-determined coastal locations within designated carparking bays or adjacent hard stand areas. Businesses interested in providing a beach hire equipment service are encouraged to apply for a mobile trader’s permit. Applications would be subject to approval for the specific location and take into consideration location specific factors as per the normal approval process for mobile trader’s permit.

Additionally, interested vendors can apply to use a designated area of the beach or adjacent parklands through a venue hire application. The City can permit groups and individuals to hire City-managed venues for various purposes. Operators are subject to the City’s terms and conditions of hire, including hourly fees, inclusive of setup and pack-up times.
