Art collection

The City of Joondalup Art Collection was formed with the inception of the City in 1998 with Joondalup inheriting the contemporary artworks from the City of Wanneroo’s Art Collection. With a primary focus on the work of West Australian contemporary artists, the City’s Art Collection includes sculpture, drawings, paintings, print works, textiles, ceramics, glass work, video, photography, and installation.

Along with standard collecting avenues, acquisitions are actively informed through the City’s annual exhibitions and the biennial $20,000 Visual Arts Commission. The Art Collection today is comprised of over 290 artworks and worth over $1.2 million. The collection is housed and is on display within the City of Joondalup’s buildings, including the Civic Chambers, Libraries, Leisure Centres and Administration buildings.

For queries about the Art Collection please contact the City’s Curator on visualarts@joondalup.wa.gov.au or 9400 4000.

Public Art Collection

The City’s diverse Public Art Collection includes sculptural, mural, lighting-based and integrated works. Comprised of over 50 public artworks, it is valued at over $7 million. Across the City, Public Art commissions and programs seek to create a sense of place, promote the expression of local identity, and reflect on the shared values of the community.

Public art contributes not only to the aesthetic appeal of urban and natural spaces, but also plays a crucial role in fostering community identity, civic pride, and a sense of belonging.

The City commissions art in the public realm and has an extensive Public Art Collection consisting of over 50 artworks ranging from sculpture, mural to lighting-based and integrated elements located throughout the City. The Collection has been valued at over $7 million and actively developed through commissions for City developments, invested via a Percent for Art Policy (1% for projects over $1 million).

The City’s public art programs seek to promote the expression of local identity and reflect on the shared values of the community and are guided by our Public Art Council Policy and Public Art Masterplan. For queries about the Public Art Collection please contact the City’s Public Art Officer on visualarts@joondalup.wa.gov.au or 9400 4000.
