Pilgrims have been undertaking journeys to places of spiritual significance for hundreds of years, historically following in the footsteps of a religious identity. But is the definition of a pilgrim and pilgrimage changing in today’s world? Are pilgrimages still undertaken in the twenty-first century? If so, is the purpose of such a journey what it was in the Middle Ages?
