Registration and microchipping play a crucial role in reuniting lost dogs with owners.
Registration and renewal requirements
Dogs may be registered for a period of one year, three years, or lifetime. Dog registration requirements include:
- All dogs must be registered and microchipped from the age of three months.
- Failing to register or microchip your dog may lead to a fine.
- Providing an alternative contact person when registering your dog is recommended. This can provide City Officers with an alternative contact if your dog has been found and you are not contactable.
- Animals registered for one year or three years, are required to renew their registration on 31 October in the year of registration expiry.
- Dogs must wear a collar displaying a current registration tag.
- It is recommended that a name tag with owner’s contact name and number is attached to the dog’s collar.
- Dogs must be on a leash in public areas and near play equipment, unless otherwise specified.
- Dogs must be under control at all times.
- Pick up all dog waste when out with your dog.
- Your property must have adequate fencing to confine your dog.
