Property information and addressing

Find guidelines on property information and addressing details to support you in making informed decisions about your property.

New property addresses

The City oversees the allocation of property addresses, adhering to Western Australia's Geographical Naming Policies and AS4819 standards. New addresses are assigned mainly through the subdivision process.

Requesting a change to an existing property address

Owners may seek an address change for reasons such as unsuitability or identification issues. Address change appeals are viable only if they align with AS4819 standards, excluding requests based on personal preference, numerology, feng shui, or religious beliefs.

To apply for an address change, please submit a written explanation of your reasons by via info@joondalup.wa.gov.au.

Displaying your property address and letterbox guidelines

Visible address signage and properly placed letterboxes help in identifying properties, especially for emergency services and utility providers.

  • Place letterboxes near the front boundary, accessible from the street, ideally near the main pedestrian entry.
  • Letterboxes near driveway entrances must not exceed 0.75 metres in height if within 1.5 metres of the junction.

Property boundaries

While the City's online mapping system provides general property dimensions, it's not suitable for exact boundary determinations. For precise details, engaging a professional land surveyor is advisable or contact Landgate for a copy of the latest survey plan for your property.
