Learn about construction noise regulations and the process for obtaining approval for out-of-hours work.
Overview of requirements
Construction activities are permitted between Monday - Saturday (excluding public holidays), 7am - 7pm, as long as the equipment is in proper working condition and used appropriately.
For construction outside these hours, you must obtain prior approval from the City.
Requests for out of hours construction work
Requests will only be considered for special circumstances and should include:
- Reasons for needing to work beyond standard hours.
- Assurance that the quietest possible equipment is used.
- Compliance with AS 2436-2010 for noise and vibration control on construction and demolition sites.
- A detailed Noise Management Plan for the site.
Preparing the Noise Management Plan
The Noise Management Plan should detail:
- Construction tasks expected to occur outside regular hours.
- Activities on-site likely to produce noise above standard levels, including timelines.
- Predicted noise output.
- Noise control strategies, including for vibration.
- Monitoring procedures for noise and vibration.
- How noise complaints will be handled.
- Notification process for neighbouring properties potentially affected by noise.
