Parking restrictions

Parking restrictions are necessary to provide safe, efficient, and equitable access for all drivers and improve traffic flow.

Parking requirements

To ensure you are parking in accordance with parking restrictions please:

  • Read and understand the parking signs in the area.
  • Check the times you are allowed to park.
  • Park your vehicle within the parking bay lines and permitted area that your payment applies to.
  • Where required, pay the parking fee by parking machines or payment application.
  • Display a valid parking permit, where required, so that all details are clearly visible from outside the vehicle.
  • Allow yourself sufficient time to return to your vehicle before your parking expires.

Following these simple points will reduce the chance that your vehicle will be infringed and makes for a stress-free parking experience.

Common parking restrictions

The following are some of the most common parking signs found throughout the City of Joondalup:

Other parking restrictions

  • A commercial vehicle is a vehicle that has been fitted, adapted, or constructed for the conveyance of goods, merchandise, or materials, and is used for that purpose. This does not include vehicles constructed to convey materials for any trade, business, or industry.
  • Heavy vehicles are a single vehicle, or a combination of vehicles, exceeding a gross vehicle mass (GVM) of greater than 4.5 tonnes.
  • Long vehicles are single vehicles, or a combination of vehicles, that exceeds 7.5 metres in length.

These vehicles may stop on a verge for the purpose of loading or unloading goods and materials to the property adjacent to the verge, provided there is no obstruction to surrounding roads and footpaths. Loading and offloading must be completed as quickly as possible.

Heavy and long vehicles cannot be parked on a carriageway, verge or in a carpark for more than one hour. For the duration of that hour, the vehicle must be engaged in actively picking up or setting down goods or materials, or be stopped in a designated truck bay.

Unattached caravans, boats, and trailers cannot be stopped or parked on a road, verge, or car park at any time.

When attached to a motor vehicle, caravans and trailers may stop or park on a road, verge, or car park in accordance with the normal restrictions.

For parking on private property (behind the property line), please refer to the City’s Local Planning Scheme No. 3, or contact the City’s Planning Services team.

Disability or accessible parking is available throughout the City of Joondalup. If an accessible bay is not available, ACROD permit holders can park in a standard parking bay and still receive the concessions. Alternatively, patrons can enquire with the service they are visiting as some businesses have private disability parking available.

When parking in accessible parking within the City of Joondalup the following conditions apply:

  • The permit must be current.
  • The expiry date and permit number must be clearly visible from outside the vehicle.
  • Fees must be paid in fee payable parking areas.
  • Concession provides twice the time purchased (for instance one hour parking restriction allows two hours of parking).

Areas with a parking restriction of:

  • Less than 30 minutes – a concession provides a maximum parking time of 30 minutes.
  • Between 30 and 60 minutes – a concession provides a maximum parking time of two hours.
  • Over one hour – a concession provides a maximum time that is double the amount of time shown on the sign.
