Membership types

Explore library membership details, including how to join, borrowing terms, renewal options, returns, and the advantages of your free membership. 

There are three library memberships available:

Here are some points to keep in mind before joining: 

  • Provide identification showing your home address and signature. (e.g. driver’s licence, Senior’s Card) 
  • Children under 18 years of age must be joined by their parent or guardian. 
  • If you’re unable to provide identification, please ask Library staff about membership options.

Enjoy immediate access to our extensive digital collection, featuring over 1.2 million eBooks, audiobooks, magazines, newspapers, films, research databases and online learning by joining online. 

Join online

Important note: If you wish to borrow physical items, online memberships can be validated by visiting one of our Libraries and providing identification such as a driver’s licence or Seniors Card. Please note, not all online resources are available to online members.

Schools, adult day centres, childcare centres, pre-schools and kindergartens can join the Library.

This membership offers you: 

  • Maximum of 20 items  

  • Loan limit for 28 days 

  • Items from the full Library collection.

To apply, visit your local Library with the following documents: 

  • A request for membership on organisational letterhead, signed by the Manager/Principal 
  • A completed membership form.

Important membership information

Members are entitled to two renewals of an item unless another customer has requested the same item. 

Renew online 

Alternate methods include:

  • Phone: call 9400 4751 for staff to renew your items. 

  • In person: ask staff to renew your items when you next visit.  

  • Self-serve: use the self-serve kiosks or public computers in the Library. 

Members can reserve up to 50 items. Login to your membership dashboard to browse and place reservations.  

You will receive an email notification (or post if you haven’t provided an email address) when your reservation is ready to collect. 

Items are due back by close of business on the due date. Items returned after the close of business are considered overdue.  

Return your items to any of the four Library locations. Each Library has a 24/7 return chute.  

Review all your due dates by using your membership dashboard.

Loss or damage of Library items, lost membership cards, and returning or renewing items after the due date will incur charges.  

Late returns are charged at 25 cents per item, per day. Overdue fines do not apply to eBooks or download titles, however, if a member has more than $10 in fines against their membership, they will not be allowed access to some online resources. 

The City provides loan reminders to borrowers: 

  • Loan transaction receipt or email 

  • Three-day end of loan reminder – email only 

  • One day overdue loan reminder – email only 

  • Three-day overdue loan reminder – post or email. 

Pay library fines in person or log in and pay via your membership dashboard using SecurePay. 

Pay online

A lost membership card can be replaced for $6. Please contact Library staff immediately if your Library card is lost or stolen. 

If you have lost or damaged a library item, please contact staff to avoid additional overdue fines. If you return a lost item within 12 months from when it was due, you will receive a refund minus a $6 administration charge. 

The City uses a debt collection service if accounts remain unpaid. The City will commence cost recovery as follows: 

  • After 28-days an overdue invoice will be sent to the member. 

  • After 56-days an overdue referral is sent to a debt collection service to recover costs. 

Please note, borrowers will be charged a $12.80 late collection fee regardless of whether the item(s) are returned or not. Members cannot borrow additional items until all outstanding charges are paid in full.
