The City maintains over 300 parks and reserves. Visiting them is a great way to get out and about, connect with nature, catch up with friends and family and keep active.

The public toilet facilities in parks can be viewed on the map below. All public toilets are maintained on a cleaning schedule. Alternatively, view the national public toilet register.

There are fantastic barbecue facilities in the following City parks for your convenience. All barbecues are electric, free to use and are maintained and cleaned regularly:

You only require a booking on a park if the following applies:

  • number of guests attending is more than 50 people
  • a request to consume alcohol is required
  • any entertainment or infrastructure is to be brought onto the park, such as a bouncy castle, petting zoo, face painter, etc.
  • a high-risk birthday celebration, such as sixteenth, eighteenth, twenty-first
  • performing a wedding ceremony
  • if you are a commercial business.

Important note: even with a booking it is public open space and the City does not guarantee exclusive use or allow any area to be cordoned off. The City does not take bookings for tables, gazebos and barbecues located on the reserve and these are on a first come first served basis.

If you require access to your property via public open space or a park, please complete the Accessing City Public Space Application Form (PDF). Fees and charges apply. The form must be completed and returned to the City at least 10 days prior to the required access date. A City Officer will undertake a pre-start inspection and then contact you to advise if your application is approved or not. After the access period has ended, another inspection is undertaken to ensure there has been no damage to the area.

There are some activities that are not permitted at City of Joondalup parks and reserves:

  • camping
  • riding of motor bikes, off road bikes or mini bikes
  • playing golf
  • use of remote-controlled cars, planes, boats
  • paragliding
  • fishing within lakes and ponds.

Reporting prohibited activities

The launching and retrieval of drones is permitted within City parks and reserves, providing the operator does not cause nuisance to other visitors. Drones must be flown in accordance with Civil Aviation Safety Authority (CASA) rules and regulations. Further information relating to the flying of drones within public areas can be found on the CASA website.

The City maintains all lighting in parks, associated car parks and sporting grounds. Generally, sports lighting in parks is only energised when the City has a booking for the space. However, the following parks have energy efficient ambient lighting provided until 9.30pm in the evenings and from 5.30am until sunrise in the mornings.
