Clubs in Focus

Through partnership with the Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries, the City of Joondalup is committed to supporting our sporting clubs to build their organisational capacity through accessible and flexible club development services. 

The City has a team dedicated to delivering the Clubs in Focus program, providing strategic planning sessions, education workshops, venue management and industry information to sporting clubs.

Workshops and education sessions

The Sport and Recreation team partner with external service providers to deliver club development sessions throughout the year. The session topics are chosen in collaboration with clubs and State Sporting Associations.

Sport and Recreation Officer meetings

Clubs within the City have a designated Sport and Recreation Officer to assist and engage with. The Officer is available to assist your club through regular meetings, where you can discuss the club's needs, strengths, goals and opportunities.

City funding opportunities

  • Community Funding Program: The Community Funding Program provides financial support to incorporated community groups to conduct projects, programs, events or activities that benefit the City of Joondalup community. The program offers two levels of funding, large grants (greater than $10,000) and small grants ($10,000 or lower), bi-annually. To assist clubs with applications, the City provides information sessions at various times during the year. 
  • Corporate Sponsorship Program: The City recognises the importance of supporting events and programs that deliver economic benefit to the region and contribute to a vibrant and dynamic community atmosphere. Through the Corporate Sponsorship Program, the City is able to provide various levels of financial support for clubs who are hosting events or programs within the City of Joondalup. 
  • KidSport: KidSport is being administered by the City in partnership with the Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries making it possible for more West Australian children to participate in community sport and recreation. Eligible families can receive subsidies of up to $500 for each child to go towards local club registration fees, membership or participation fees. Visit KidSport website for more details.
  • Club Night Lights Program: Providing financial assistance to community groups and local governments to develop sports floodlighting to infrastructure. The program aims to maintain or increase participation in sport and recreation with an emphasis on physical activity, through rational development of good-quality, well-designed and well-utilised facilities. 
  • Community Sporting and Recreation Facilities Fund: The Community Sporting and Recreation Facilities Fund (CSRFF) exemplifies the West Australian Government’s commitment to the development of sustainable infrastructure for sport and recreation across the State. The purpose is to provide financial assistance to community groups and local government authorities to develop basic infrastructure for sport and recreation, to increase participation in sport and recreation.

External funding opportunities

The City has found a list of open grants so clubs don’t have to. See below for grants relevant to sports and recreation clubs. 

  • Healthway - Healthy Sports ProgramHealthway Healthy Sports Program accepts applications throughout the year. Under the Program, junior sports clubs and district associations can request up to $4,000 in funding to implement healthy eating initiatives and improve canteen facilities. 
  • Telstra Footy Country Grants: As the foundation to AFL and the heartbeat of communities, investment in local clubs is vital. To ensure everyone has access to play AFL and experience the health, social and wellbeing benefits that come with belonging to a club, the AFL and Telstra have committed $8million over four years. 
    Eligible regional and metro clubs can apply for grants up to $20,000.
  • Woolworths Pick Fresh, Play Fresh Grants: Woolworths Pick Fresh Play Fresh Grant supports grassroots netball associations and clubs across Australia. Grants of up to $8,000 are available to clubs who have a tangible project, activity or equipment which ties into Pick Fresh (eating healthy food) or Play Fresh (being Active).

The City has the below schedule for booking requests:

  • Booking Manager: The City of Joondalup manages all sport and recreation club venue bookings. To make a booking request, log into your club’s Bookings Manager account. For more information visit the City's Venue bookings page.
  • Facility maintenance request form: If the venue you hire has any issues, such as damage, report online to the City. If you are experiencing persistent problems at your venue, please contact your Sport and Recreation Officer.
  • Sporting Club Storage Framework: There is hirable storage space available at each of the City’s venue. If your club would like storage at your venue, contact the Sport and Recreation team.
  • Club funded upgrade: If your club occupies or hires a City venue, you are unable to make any changes to the venue without City approval. The Club Funded Upgrade application provides direction for clubs seeking to upgrade a venue, where the City has no funding involvement for the proposed works.
