A driver’s licence provides young people with independence and greater access to employment, training and leisure activities.

About the Ryde program

The City has partnered with the RYDE program to offer accessible and supervised driving opportunities to young people aged between 16 - 25 years who may be experiencing difficulties accessing opportunities to gain log book hours. Young people can access the Joondalup RYDE Program to complete their 50 hours of supervised driving before receiving their provisional licence. Driving sessions start and finish at Joondalup Library.

Eligibility

To be eligible for the RYDE program, you will need to:

  • Aged 16 - 25 years.
  • Have a learner’s permit.
  • Can access Joondalup Library for all RYDE driving sessions.

Costs

  • Driving sessions cost $15 for a 90-minute booking and are to be paid using PayPal.
  • A RYDE safety assessment cost of $75 (subject to change) to an external driving school.

How to join RYDE

To participate in the program follow these steps:

  1. Read the FAQs.
  2. Arrange a ‘signup’ appointment.
  3. Attend your sign-up appointment. Your Support Worker will set you up with an online account on the RYDE website. 
  4. Access your online RYDE account for information on the program and account details.
  5. Book a RYDE assessment with one of the partnered Driving Schools to evaluate basic safe driving skills.
  6. Purchase RYDE credits through your online account using Credit/Debit Card or Paypal.
  7.  Book driving sessions online.
  8. Attend Joondalup Library located at 102 Boas Avenue for RYDE session.
