Community transport

The City offers assistance to individuals facing challenges with public transportation through two key initiatives:

Community Transport Program

The Community Transport Program helps eligible people who do not drive and have difficulty using public transport. The program offers a door-to-door service to travel to:

  • Shopping centres - Lakeside Joondalup Shopping City, Whitford City, Warwick Grove and Greenwood Village
  • Seniors’ clubs - Whitford Senior Citizens’ Club
  • Joondalup Library - A free monthly service to Joondalup Library running every fourth Saturday. The visit allows you plenty of time to browse, select and borrow your library items.

Residents must meet all of the below criteria:

  • Reside or are based in the City of Joondalup.
  • Are disadvantaged in their access to regular public transport.
  • Experience a lack of alternative transport options, for example due to frailty or disability.
  • Can independently get in and out of the vehicle or use the wheelchair hoist provided.
  • Have the capacity to manage independently or with a personal carer. Carers and support workers are welcome on the bus and travel free of charge when they accompany a person in their direct care.

Contact the Community Transport officer on 9400 4000 or info@joondalup.wa.gov.au to organise a home visit. The Community Transport Officer will advise which bus runs are available in your suburb.

Important notes:

  • A fee of $6 provides a door-to-door service to and from nominated shopping centres and seniors clubs. This fee is current as of 1 July 2023 and is reviewed at the start of each financial year by a minimal amount, in accordance with Council endorsed fees and charges.
  • The City is unable to provide transport for individual appointments (medical etc). View the community directory for providers of this service.

Community Transport Bus Hire

Community transport vehicles may be available for hire from Monday to Sunday (excluding public holidays and Christmas period shutdown).

To be eligible, applicants must be:

  • Based in the City of Joondalup or benefitting City of Joondalup residents.
  • Not-for-profit community groups/organisations and schools.
  • Providing services to the community consistent with the objectives of the City’s Strategic Community Plan and/or Community Development Plan.
