Kingsley Tennis Club have been collecting containers since the program first began in 2020 and has since raised almost $3000 - an incredible achievement for a small club. The club secretary, Marie, says:
“It is so simple to do, and all members can participate no matter their age or ability – a very easy way to fundraise to subsidize club events. It has been great to see more club members collecting containers that were once litter or destined for landfill, and say, “there’s another 10 cents!”.
Having a well-organised system that we promote helps to make it a success. We have designated green bins located around the club, and provide the scheme number to members, giving them the flexibility to choose how they donate their containers. We found having a couple of designated members who were passionate about recycling and seeing the club be more sustainable was a real bonus - we made these “leaders in recycling” and have been infectious inspiring members to participate”.
The club also recycle old tennis balls through the Tread Lightly program - The old balls are transformed into recycled crumb which is used to make new products like retail flooring, gym matting or underlay for sporting surfaces. By using this scheme, the club have successfully diverted more than 200kgs away from landfill!
Kingsley Tennis Club are a small club, but luckily have a few passionate members who have actively promoted the recycling system to the members. If you would like to donate to the club, their member scheme number is C10332996.
